I don't care who recommends what. I don't care what the 'best practices' are. These issues don't come into my testing environment. My testing environment allows me to use software and prepare my plans prior to rolling out changes to clients. It allows me to see what the product feels and looks like. It's not relevant whether I should wait, jump, sit, trot or race to sell this to clients. I would like to be using gantry and rocket themes (I've been a subscriber for a couple of years now) in my 1.6 test environment.
It's called preparation. It's what happens when you think ahead.
We're still working on last minute bugs and issues related to Gantry on Joomla 1.6. The installer has proved to be a pretty big problem as this is badly broken in Joomla 1.6 and has necessitated us basically writing our own. We 'hope' to have the Gantry Framework and the base template released this week. We've already started testing some of our 1.6 extensions, so as soon as they have been signed-off one, we'll start releasing those also.
I have posed this question before and its always been in the back of my mind...
Is it RT's intention to completely deviate from the Joomla core with Gantry?
Now with the announcement about the installer being rewritten as "our own" does that mean RT is drifting further from the core? Will RT users have to use a special RT J16 installer?
Will sites using RT someday be referred to as Gantry sites instead of Joomla sites?
Same question with WordPress or Drupal?
Is it RT's intention to someday (however far off) be a completely separate standalone CMS?
ps. How long have we known about J16? 2008? I have had a beta install package for at least six months. Why are the changes with J16 such a surprise? Especially to Joomla insiders?
i don't think they mean the installer for Joomla himself and Gantry never rewrites the Core of Joomla, so i don't see the point of your questions...
I think Andy talked about the Gantry Installer or the Rocketlauncher.
RTLauncher was allready a deviate from "Standard Joomla" but Only to test und setup the page. It was never a Complete rewirte and if it is, it has nothing to do with Joomla as a CMS.
i can install ja Joomla without the installer - thats not a big deal.
Gantry is no diference because it extends joomla - it is not a replacement!
If you choose a non Gantry Template you can...
If you choose a Gantry Template you get additional options... like every other extension!
