Email Configuration with SEF

- can you configure email using the refraction template with joomla with SEF on? SEF / SEO needs to be on but when it is turned on when you send email (which does get sent) you get sent to a weird page. does anybody know how not to get sent to an odd 404 page after the email is sent?
