One public_html folder and many joomla installs?

I have one public_html folder with about 40 joomla installs and 40 mysql databases.
I am starting to get a "too many connections" error on my server and my host company is shutting me down each time.
I also have tons of customized scripts in different folders from the joomla.
Do you guys think that joomla alone could create a too-many-connections error?

- If your 40 sites are active and get a lot of traffic, it's for sure they will create a lot of connections. In this case, I would highly suggest you to move to higher server hosting, such as VPS or Dedicated server. How do you think?

Well, I just never really thought it would be a problem as each of those sites - except for maybe three of them, really don't get but maybe 3-10 unique visitors a day.
But I do have one or two heavily trafficked sites... so I guess the cumulative effect takes over. - President of Blue-Eyed Panda Website Design Services

Well sort of.
my public_html folder is part of a semi-dedicated host plan that I have complete control over. I personally put the 40 domains under that one roof - so in essence they are all shared yes... - President of Blue-Eyed Panda Website Design Services

- Yes, if you have high traffic sites, shared hosting would not be suitable.... You might want to discuss it with your current hosting whether they have upgrade plan. If not, moving to vps or dedicated server should be the best choice as the bandwith is all dedicated for your
