    Tried to update template, broke site. HELP PLS

    Posted 14 years 3 months ago
    • A friend had built our site, www.victoryasia.org using the Dominion Template, last year. I recently got a Rockettheme subscription and decided I should upgrade the template (I was interested in the new ipod/iphone features, and there were some issues that I was hoping to fix, like rokstories was not appearing properly in IE8) And I didn't read the upgrade instructions. oops.

      Anyway, seems I have now broke the site. How? Many things. After my first attempt to update the template resulted in a few bugs, i decided I should just uninstall the template and all the bundled plugins, modules, and components, and reinstall the dominion bundle. But I didn't get very far. The issue came up immediately after I uninstalled gantry, or the roknavmenu component bundle, I can't remember which exactly. I get this error on both the front and back end

      Warning: require_once(/home/vcaphilippines/victoryasia.org/administrator/components/com_rokcandy/helpers/rokcandyhelper.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/vcaphilippines/victoryasia.org/plugins/system/rokcandy_system.php on line 15

      Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/vcaphilippines/victoryasia.org/administrator/components/com_rokcandy/helpers/rokcandyhelper.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php:/usr/local/php5/lib/pear') in /home/vcaphilippines/victoryasia.org/plugins/system/rokcandy_system.php on line 15

      So obviously I can't log into the back end of Joomla right now, and I didn't back anything up *facepalm* But I'm hoping this is an issue that I can fix. Thank you.

      Using Joomla 1.5.20, Dominion template downloaded Aug 2010

    • Wow, even working on a Sunday! That's dedication! :D

      The solution did allow me to log into my site (thank god) However there are still some issues with the re-install. Some of the extensions (including the gantry upgrade) simply will not install. My browser will simply show the loading bar forever. All the plugins in the extensions bundle had the same problem, and the rokstories module. They simply will not install, nor will they show any errors.

      Some showed errors on install, including rokcandy and rokmodule. I'm sorry, I did not copy the errors, but they were along the lines of "empty folders" and "directory already exists"

      Maybe I need to start over again and do a complete uninstall of everything and then a clean install? Thanks again for your reply!

    • Sorry, I think you might be referring to a control panel that I'm not using. I'm using dreamHost's hosting service, and I checked the permissions in there, everything seems to be writeable.

      As far as I can tell, the letters are as follows:

      r=readable
      w=writeable
      x= excecuteable
      and the columns are for owner, group, and everyone

      As you can see, Everything looks to be writeable (except configuration.php)
      All the subfolders including plugins, components, and administrator components also have the same permissions set. So I don't think it is a permissions issue?

    • I'm also getting errors in the back end, probably because of the missing components... Here's what happens when I click "add new article" in the back end..

      hi chris,

      i am attaching a screenshot for you to explain better.
      when you are logged in to your joomla administrator as a super admin, then you will be able to see these options.

      from the other error messages, it looks as if you have uninstalled some joomla core modules/plugins by mistake.

      which is your current joomla version? you may have to reupload all the joomla files to fix this issue first, then we can check again and see why you can not install any other extensions.

    • Hi Kat, thanks for the clarification. Everything here is labelled "writeable"

      So By, "all the joomla files" I guess you mean excluding the installation directory, yes? Are there any other files or folders I should exclude when I upload it?

      Sorry, I'm still kind of new at Joomla. Thanks!

    • hi chris,

      yes, do not upload the installation folder and also not the configuration.php file in the joomla root.

    • I did this, and I was able to install all the extensions on the bindle.

      but....

      When I configured the rokstories module (using strict instructions to make sure it was set up the same as before) only the thumbnails would appear.

      So I thought, "hmmm.. Maybe if I add a new article, the image might load up the rokstories module. So back to the back end I went, and clicked add new article, only to get this error.
