Affinity - Contact Component Problem

I've been using Affinity for a while and to my shame I seem never to have tested the contact page ... only to find that people have been trying to contact me and I've not been getting the messages.
Thinking the problem was with the component I loaded another and was informed
You need to add this text <jdoc:include type="message" /> somewhere above this text <jdoc:include type="component" /> in the index.php file of the template.
However in checking index.php - <jdoc:include type="component" /> just doesn't exisit!
Please can anyone help me, I've seen similar posts relating to 404 but that hasn't helped me with this, can't believe the template doesn't have this worked out somehow but I just can't find out how.
Be VERY grateful for any assistance/guidance to sorting this out.
