Move the site from temporary folder to final folder

Posted 14 years 7 months ago
    • Hi,

I just started to use Joomla and am quite still new to this. I installed Joomla and the Panacea template in a temporary folder to try it out and configure things.

Now that I've decided to keep using Joomla, I'd like to move the site to its final destination and site. How can I do that?

The website final location is http://www.vmgdistribution.com and its temporary location is http://skinlala.vmgdistribution.com/essai/

Thank you in advance for your input and advice!

    • Hi JEM, thank you very much for your reply!

I'm guessing it only backup the content and not the modules that were installed (I screwed up the install of one of them) which would allow me to re-install the modules and start from fresh?

I read your topic about starting over.

    • No, Akeeba backs up the entire site and the database and creates an installer.

(You can omit files and folders, but not component, modules, or plug-ins that are installed.)

I don't know what Module you are referring to, but you could try uninstalling it before or after the back up and then try reinstalling it.
    • Thanks,

    • The Module is the Rokquickcart. The module is not listed in the component list and thus I can't uninstall it to re-install. But the files are still there, somewhere.

Since Akeeba backs up the entire site, do I need to install a fresh version of Joomla or does the installer include Joomla?

I'm guessing the installer created by Akeeba is to be used after installing a fresh version of Joomla then going into the Extension Manager to install the back up. I'm also guessing that the template will be included in the installer created by Akeeba?

      Thank you for your help!

    • No, Akeeba backs up the entire site and the database and creates an installer.

After you back up the site you will have an installer with your entire site ready to install, an exact copy of what you have now, Joomla, the template, the contents, etc, which runs similar to a stock install of Joomla or a Rocket Launcher.

there is no need to install Joomla first, nor is there a way to apply an Akeeba back up to an existing install.

Akeeba has several videos on their site, grab a cup of coffee, sit back and watch them.

You'll be ready to go in no time.

For RokQuickCart, you should search or post here for instruction to manually uninstall if you are have trouble.
