Unable to Load Internal Articles | 404 - Component not found

So I finally get my localhost transferred to my web provider, get everything installed, do some back-end work through Joomla, and ensure my .htc thing is routing properly.
HOWEVER, now no webpages load!
Is this an issue with SEF? The last time I messed with it, my entire site crashed and got all tangly. Prim had to point me in the right direction

Here's the error message:
404 - Component not found

When you turned on the SEF feature, did you remember to rename your htaccess.txt file to .htaccess ?
Many times htaccess files are seen as hidden files by FTP clients and therefor not transferred over when you think you're moving all your files. If it's missing, upload it and then check the SEF.

Hi Ben
We were having the same problem with activating the SEF and Apache in the global config settings. After googling some info, we found that it was recommended that we rename the htaccess.txt file in the FTP folder of the template to .htaccess. And then ofcourse in the global config theres a yellow beacon warning to change the file name prior to activating these settings, BUT.....
With renaming, the htaccess file disappeared altogether, and the same error message showed up on the browser as the one mentioned previously on both the website and the backend login. We are hosted on a Linux server.
PLEASE HELP!!!!

- It looks like you're changing the wrong htaccess file. In the main directory of your Joomla install, there is a "htaccess.txt" file. That is the one to change. The one in the template folder is more of an experimental one right now. You can set the template one back, and change the main directory one, then give it a go.
