Passing information from live website to a RocketLaunched

Hello,
I have a live website www.TerapiaAlternativa.net .
I want to download the July 2010 Panacea Template with RocketLauncher to a local server and then somehow move the information from TerapiaAlternativa.net to Panacea.
I have already installed the TerapiaAlternativa.net database in the local server, I will have that there for the other site, is this where the information is stored? can it be accesed through the Panacea Administration? Is this the way to do this?
Please advise?

You can add the content from one install (your old site) to a Rocket Launcher (or any other type of install).
Basically there are three options:
1. Use the Rocket Launcher with the sample data - edit the sample content, replacing it with your own, and delete what you don’t need.
2. Apply the template and extensions to and existing site, then move the content around to match the new template’s positions.
3. Use a stock install of Joomla without the sample data, install the template and extensions, then add your content.
If your site is large, you may want to use option #2.
I would suggest backing up your site with Akeeba, installing it on localhost or a sub folder of your site and working on it while it's off line.
When you are finished, you can use Akeeba to move the new site to its new location. - Thanks,

I want to thank you very much.
You, JEM, have helped me a lot before with the live website, the current one.
One question please. The site is big indeed. So I guess the idea of the Rocketlaunching is not the one to take, I guess I will have to use the localhost with the current site.
So I have downloaded already the entire site and I have put in my machine. I use a Mac and I have installed MAMP, I have put the site under HTDocs..., it seems that I have to change one of the files somewhere in order to make the site running locally, would you please let me know which is that file and what are the changes please?
The other question I have is that I have a directory based on Sobi2, and I am considering changing the entire format of the site and move it to JomSocial, my site is already visited by 25 K visitors, so I have a great chance to make it a social network. The thing is that since the site is directory, I have already quite a few people with their profiles in there under Sobi2, the question is: what would you suggest would be the best way to transfer those profiles from Sobi2 to JomSocial?

You would need to edit the configuration.php file and depending on what else you have installed, a few other files.
(It's been so long since I've done this manually...
)
I highly recommend, as I mentioned in my previous post, using Akeeba to move your site.
Akeeba will automatically back up your entire site and database and create an installer.
You just need to download the backup, create a DB, and run the install.
Akeeba will automatically rewrite all the proper files / paths so your site will work locally.
For your Sobi2-JomSocial question, along with searching or posting on their forums, I suggest starting a new thread in the general section as I am not an expert on this type of move. - Thanks,

Hi there,
Well I tried using Akeeba and it messed everything up when I tried passing the info.
I have realized the I want to let go several pieces of software/apps/extensions and move on to JomSocial completely, like Acajoom, Community Builder, Agora, LyftenBloggie, some how I would like to create the site from scratch again and make it cleaner.
It is my feeling that even if I uninstall these extensions that the software it is still messy (am I correct?)
So, I am considering starting from scratch, with RocketLauncher, then with Jom Social, my question is: how do I migrate the users database to this new website?, how do I migrate extensions and applications that are still needed? what would it be the best way to do it?

All in all when you uninstall extensions, they should uninstall cleanly, but it all depends on the uninstaller provided by the developer of the extension. There is no way for me to tell which extensions will uninstall perfectly and which will leave some entries in the DB or folders in the root.

Users from Joomla?
You need to export your user info from the old DB an import it to the new one.
Again, this is not template related, and although I've done this a few time, I am not an expert, so you should search or post on joomla.org, or start a new thread...
