On permissions: Use Akeeba Admin Tools. Fixes scores of errors we wouldn't catch without hours of culling through files. Try this first.

Have you gone into your host Control Panel and set up the proper permissions for FTP Accounts on the new site? That could be your key.

This may be your answer, maybe not.

      Hope it helps.

Carol: the FTP is setup correctly as far as the configuration.php is concerned. I downloaded this cool admin tool that you reccomended. It turned out there is a new version of Joomla out (it told me so). I went to update and a popup came to screen showing the exact information I had entered into the global config/server screen. I confirmed it was correct and it updated Joomla for me. Based on this, I believe that this is a server issue (permissions) and not a Joomla setup problem.

Do you agree/disagree? This is going to facilitate a move of the whole site, so I am very interested on others opinions here.

      Thanks!

    • Any experience with any of these? It looks like a lot of them want to install for you. I just want a host that will allow me to do what I need to.

Oh golly no! You don't need to move your site or your host! I used godaddy for a month just to familiarize myself with their setup for cases such as this. This is quite possible to do with their servers, both shared and secure.

All we have to do is make Joomla and the server play nice together in (what the host considers) an "unusual" setup. You have either misconfigured something OR you haven't gone through all the steps to make sure your server is okay with Joomla installed off the root.

Here's a link to a post I made some time ago which addresses, IN DEPTH, every step you need to take for a primary account with Joomla installed off the root. I'm not known for my brevity but the devil is in the details: http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=429&t=549268

Also, keep in mind that just one teensy, tiny little comma or semi-colon in your configuration file may very well be your problem. I say this because I'm the world's worst about missing those little suckers when I'm tired.

In this link you will find a list of best hosting providers. But if i have to choose, then the best are Siteground and One. Anyway go through the link and you will see.

Till this date i never had the problems you are facing. It seam you are making wrong things and rewriting what you do not have to touch into your hosting.

Anyway if the problem persist, let take a look into your hosting and i will comment to you after.

We have some domains in Goddady and sometimes they do not make some changes and we have to do it once again.
