How to use apache mod_deflate with Gantry

Posted 13 years 4 months ago
    • Hi,

We've been testing compression on our site using the apache mod_deflate command in .htaccess:

      AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE application/x-httpd-php text/php text/html text/plain text/css text/xml application/x-javascript text/javascript application/javascript

We found that with the Gantry GZipper *disabled*, many files failed to be compressed. When we *enabled* the Gantry Gzipper, all but the following 3 files were compressed:

      - /templates/rt_panacea_j15/js/jquery-ui-1.8.9.custom.min.js
      - /media/system/js/mootools.js
      - /templates/rt_panacea_j15/js/jquery-1.4.4.min.js

So I have two questions that I hope you can hep with:

      1) Why/how does Gantry prevent mod_deflate from compressing Gantry-related files?

      2) With the Gantry Gzipper enabled (along with mod_deflate), why are 3 large javascript files still being missed?

Note: I'm hesitant to try RokGZipper as it appears from various posts that it interacts poorly with a number of extensions.

I appreciate any help you can provide!

      Thank you,

      Andrew
