Question on old URLs that are soft 404s - Category Not Found
Posted 12 years 10 months ago
Hi,
I have a Joomla 2.5.4 site with an RT Reflex template. I have a custom Google Widget 404 error page setup in my .htaccess file which according to the web host it should work:
But instead of getting the Google Widget custom 404 page when an old URL is reached, my site displays a normal page with my Reflex template and a system message saying: Category not found
The problem is I have a ton of old URLs because I had installed a translation extension which ended up being nothing but problems so I uninstalled it. This translation extension created translated copies of my site pages with a separate directory for each language. For example, the Spanish language pages has /es/ after the domain and before the /index.php/ in each URL such as:
If you go to that URL you get the soft 404 page instead of the custom Google 404 page. Since there are a lot of those old URLs, is there any way to configure Joomla to use the custom 404 page that tells the search engines the page is clearly an old URL that they shouldn't index?
I attached a screenshot of my Global Config SEF settings to see if that's causing the problem.
NOTE to forum mods:Right-Click is disabled on my site but source code is visible. Unfortunately, I have some images on my site that are licensed and the agreement is that right-click be disabled. I use the F12 key for Firebug instead of right-click. Sorry for the inconvenience.
