Template Sections Meta Data Setup / Config / Use?

Posted 12 years 5 months ago
    • Hi All.

      Firstly, I'm using Joomla 2.5.7.

      I notice there's a couple of areas where we can set meta data info etc such as;

Menu Manager: Edit Menu Item there's 'Metadata Options'
Menu Manager: Edit Menu Item there's the 'Module Assignments & Meta Data' tab
Article Manager: Edit Article there's 'Publishing & Metadata' tab
      Global Configuration there's 'SEO Settings'

I am not entirely sure what's known to be the best settings regarding joomla site's SEO settings, to maximise any angle we can when putting joomla backed sites live on the internet and to be picked up by the SE's as well as possible.

Is it better to have separate SEO information inserted per menu item or article item within each specific menu / article? If this is the case, what settings if any do I need to change from global SEO, as surely it would then become local (my word) seo / meta data information?

Also, does anybody know of any joomla extension whereby it would list ALL menu items and article items in one long list on your screen, to enable you to change / enter the seo / meta data details, rather than having to do it with many more mouse clicks individually as it is at present within joomla?

*update and edited* Since writing this topic I've been searching for well over 12 hours through JED for SEO extensions and have come across SH404SEF http://anything-digital.com/sh404sef/seo-analytics-and-security-for-joomla.html & Skyline Keyword Linking http://www.vnskyline.com/joomla-components/skyline-keyword-linking.html the latter as I believe with the recent changes in Google's Algorithms Penguin etc, internal and external linking is still quite important?

My question is before I commit to by them both, how do I know they'll work alongside each other or complement each other, as I don't want to waste any money naturally?

I've also found Site Verification is quite important too and testing a few extensions that deal with this aspect.

Any help or guidance in this critical area and to help me learn this area of Joomla based sites much better, would be very much appreciated indeed.

      Regards,

I think everyone is trying to figure this out in general.

It just depends how you want it displayed in search results. Search engines use the Heading Tags (h1-h6) for the title and the description is made up of a limited number of characters from the article or whatever you choose to put in the meta-description field. Does that make sense? The meta-keyword field is a little different in the sense that it is not displayed directly with search results, but designed give the bot specific words rather than it crawling the title and article for keywords. Filling out the fields does not necessarily give you a better chance of appearing higher on results (other than the general benefit specificity already gives), but it helps you customize how the bots crawl your site. However, it will still be up to them if and how they use the metadata.

      No, sorry.

Not much I could say other then what is already written on their respective websites.
