How to change article background color??

How do I change the background color of an article? I just started using metropolis (although this question is not specific to metropolis) and the article color defaults to black with white letters. I would think there would be an easy way to change this in the template manager?? Here is the site for reference:

that doesnt show an example of how to change the background.
(theres no template.css to edit anymore)
that link talks about adding classes to different areas of the template.

It's one specific area and the class changes the background of the content area in this specific template.
If you have an issue with an specific template please post in template specific forum.
It's different in every template.
It was always bad practice to change template.css.
Better add a custom css file and add soem code that doesn't get removed with the update for your template.
