CANNOT INSTALL 3.0 - PLEASE HELP

  • CANNOT INSTALL 3.0 - PLEASE HELP

    Posted 11 years 10 months ago
    • Please help me - I'm NOT a programmer. The installation went smooth but at the end I can't access the admin because during the pre-installation check it states that "Magic Quotes GPC Off."

      Can you please get this 'turned on' for me so I may complete installation and begin editing?

      I've tried for over an hour to understand this issue and watched several videos on YouTube which state that a php.ini file has to be created.

      Found this article: www.techmew.com/38/how-to-resolve-magic-...stalling-joomla-3-0/

      That states:

      1. Create a php.ini file in the installation folder within your joomla root folder and paste in it the code given below:

      magic_quotes_gpc = Off
      session.save_path = "/tmp"

      But I simply do NOT know how to do this. Please help.

      Thank you,

      Frustrated User

    • You should really contact your hosting support to help you with this because this is server related config parameter 8)

    • Well why can't you help us - it's your software. And all the articles or videos stated the same thing (nothing about server but actually it's about simply creating a php.ini file and dropping it in the root folder which they all said was EASY). Wow I can't believe how unprofessional and lazy you people are. I won't buy anything else from you anymore.

    • The more I think about your answer it clearly shows you did not even look at the link - BECAUSE THEY AND ABOUT A THOUSAND OTHER ARTICLES AND VIDEOS I READ OR WATCHED NEVER - I REPEAT NEVER - MENTIONED A 'SERVER THING' AND ALL SAID TO CREATE THE PHP.INI FILE which was 'EASY' ACCORDING TO THEM. Apparently easy is too much for you.

      Your answer was so pathetic and reeks of laziness on ALL levels.

    • php.ini file is configuration file for php environment and that environment is part of your web server configuration. We really can't help you to configure your web server. You have to contact your hosting support regarding this. Configuration of server environment is really no the part of our software and it really can't be.

      You can drop php.ini file with custom parameters in your web site root ONLY if server is configured to allow such thing. In case server prohibits this only hosting support can solve this.

    • NO - quit lying dude. The articles never said that! NOT ONE!!! They NEVER MENTIONED THAT. What they did mention was an 'easy' fix. WHY ARE YOU GOING OUT OF YOUR WAY TO LIE - THE LINK WAS PROVIDED FOR YOU AND THERE ARE SEVERAL THAT SAY THE EXACT SAME THING!!!

      SO UNPROFESSIONAL YOU AND ROCKETTHEME ARE (smh).

    • I honestly hope that you are joking here :shock: :shock: :shock:

      Did you actually read this article by yourself? Did you see parts I marked for you on the attached screenshot?

      It clearly says that this approach "may resolve your problem"

      It clearly says that "If your problem is not resolved even after this, you can always contact your hosting provider for resolving this problem"

      I honestly don't understand why do you think that I am lying? I don't work this support from yesterday. I work this for a very long time. I also work with Joomla from it's very beginning. I also have very deep IT knowledge and huge experience with server configurations and administrations. That should give me some credibility when I say something regarding this matter.

      For the last time I am telling you, if your server is not configured to allow custom php.ini files in web site main folder (usually public_html on cPanel hosting control panel) then you have to contact your hosting support to allow this and change php.ini file for you.

      I run my own servers and on one the server is configured to allow my clients to add a php.ini file and on the other they cannot because that server requires more security.

      I can assure you that Igor is not lying when he says it may be necessary to talk to your hosting provider.

      So far as links to third party sites that state fixes are so easy, why do you believe uncorroborated websites. Anybody can post anything on the web. If I posted several articles where I promised you could turn lead into gold, really easily, would you believe it? I think not. 8)

      It is always easier to believe what you want to believe. As a qualified hypnotherapist I often see people who believe one thing only to have me disprove it right in front of their own eyes. Only then do they start to realise that they had been misinformed. :oops:

      Tell us who your web host is and I will check to see if I can find any issues that might help you to resolve your problem.

      Hope this helps 8)

      hi there,

      the requirement for the magic_quotes settings in joomla 3.0 is set by joomla itself and not us.
      if you do not get the server configured correctly (best way to do this is to contact your hosting provider as igor suggested) you won't be able to install even a core joomla 3.0 package that does not include any rockettheme products.

    • Hi Rocketeers,

      I'm sorry you've had to deal with an unpleasant poster. I came across this thread because I was having trouble installing a 3.0 rocket launcher because the magic quotes GPC was not off.

      This was my first 3.0 site so the issue was new to me. I wanted to add to the solution in case others are searching on the same subject.

      The php.ini file that Igor mentioned must be added to the main joomla root (public_html) as well as the administrator folder.

      Create a new file via the cPanel and add the code that Igor mentioned.
      magic_quotes_gpc=off
      session.save_path = "/tmp"

      If it's a rocket launcher, the same php.ini file must be added to the main folder, administrator folder, and the installation folder before you can get past that first page of the installation. My hosting company helped me figure out that it also had to go in the installation folder.

      Smooth sailing after that.

      Cheers,
