hI,
1 I have been advised that we should update our version of Joomla due to important security updates.
We have 2.57 and the advice was to go up to 2.59.
The advice was to NOT to go up to 3.00 as there have been fundamental changes to Joomal at that point and our template would "break". The template is Ximenia.
The advice said to back up up the site first.
comments please.

Does anyone know of any other addons that might break with this Joomla update?

And is there some kind of way to keep on top of this update-and-break-something scenario?

1. Yes, you should update to 2.5.9. Joomla 3.x is not a long-term-release - That is Joomla-speak for "stable and supported for a long time". The next LTR is 3.5
The easiest way to make backups is by using Akeeba Backup.
2. Nope.
3. You can have notifications of new releases but testing everything that is new should be done on a localhost and when it's considered to be stable you can update your live site. - Please reply with a direct link to the issue & create a new thread for each new issue.
