    SOLVED "Only secure content is displayed" Issue?

    Posted 11 years 10 months ago
    • I know I have recently had an SSL certificate activated on my hosting, I now have all URL's re-written from http:// to https://www. but I am totally at a loss as how to fix the following and it's impacting massively on my members.

      If you would like to see what is happening, go to: https://www.swswsws.co.uk/swswsws-travel/locate-a-swswsws-car-share in either IE or Chrome, as for some reason when I use FF 21.0 it loads fine.

      In IE for example when you load my map page, IE shows a "Only secure content is displayed" and it just has the ajax revolving loading image until you click "Show all content" but I can't expect my members to be faced with this everytime they visit the site.

      My host has said the following to me about this issue;
      You're exactly right. Currently you have http:// requests on the page. You will need to update the site files directly either replacing http:// with https:// or by changing to a relative path instead. Making either of these changes to each instance of https:// on the site should resolve this for you.

      Can somebody please advise exactly how I go about fixing this issue, as I'm just going around and around in circles and getting so frustrated it's untrue. I can use firebug or just right click and view source no problem, then hunting out any http:// URL's / links but it's knowing which do actually need changing and which don't. :cry:

      I look forward to hearing from you in due course.

      Regards,

    • All I can say is that if you want to use SSL certificate with your site you have to load ALL links from a secure links which is not the case right now. There is no such thing as "which link should I load from https?". ALL of them have to be loaded from https in order to have fully encrypted web site. Otherwise, you will always get similar message. FF also behaves the same but it is just a fact how does it display the message

      Hi Igor,

      Thanks for the prompt reply, much appreciated indeedy. :)

      The trouble I am having is how to actually go about achieving what you mention above, I pretty much understand I need to load all my sites URL's / links from https://www. but without changing Joomla and 3rd party components core code, I am truly stuck.

      Naturally I don't want to alter any core code, as whenever there's a joomla version update or such like, it's just going to become so complicated and revert all altered https://www paths back to the standard http://www

      Can you advise in anyway how I can achieve what you mention please?

    • You have an option in Joomla global config to switch SSL. Did you enable it?

    • Igor,

      Yep I have, as seen in the screenshot of my setting;

      I have just found through Components>Redirect Manager> but I don't know if that would help me turn any remaining http://www page links to the required https://www.

    • No idea I have to admit. Please ask the same question on official Joomla forum since this is really a Joomla core feature you are trying to utilize 8)

    • Igor,

      Thanks for the advice, I went over to Joomla and posted a request on there and I got a nudge in the right direction and pleased to say most of the issue is now sorted.
