    404 error and URL rewriting not working after moving web

    • I created a web in a subfolder of my hosting and after moving the web to another location (same hosting service) the URL rewriting isn't working and I get this error message:

      404 Not Found

      The server can not find the requested page:

      8.6.221.180/~annarosa/radgjof (port 80)
      Please forward this error screen to 8.6.221.180's WebMaster.

      Apache/2.2.24 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.24 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 mod_bwlimited/1.4 Server at 8.6.221.180 Port 80

      I've made sure that the htaccess file is named .htaccess

      Can you help?

    • Disable SEF URLs and see if the site works correctly. Do you use some additional sef extension like sh404sef or similar

    • Did that and the site works fine. I'm not using any additional sef extension. The URL rewriting works fine on my server where I developed the web here: gunna.is/ar/vorur

    • Can you confirm that Apache rewrite module is installed on that server?

    • AH! Now I realised that you still didn't point your web site to the full domain and that you are still using DNSless preview mode.

      SEF URLs works only with proper domain name and not with DNSless preview so once you point your web site to the proper domain name everything will work correctly
