Solved: Internet Explorer IE10 compatibility mode disable

Posted 11 years 3 months ago
    • Hello everyone.

I have a question regarding rocketheme templates and how internet explorer handles these websites.

I am using metropolis on a site of ours. When the site is loaded in IE10 with compatibility mode enabled - a lot of the styling gets lost and the site looks bad. So I would like to know if there is a way to force the site to load with compatibility mode disabled by defult in IE10. Is this possible?

Im sorry but my coding and IE knowledge is limited.

Then my other related question is, how does IE decide what site gets loaded in compatibility mode.
does IE decide, or is it the user who has enabled compatibility mode on there side. Or a combination of both?

Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks in advance.
      John

    • "compatibility mode" is an IE browser feature. It effectively mean "pretend to be IE7". We do not support IE7 any longer. IE will go into compatibility mode automatically if it detects that you are using an intranet.

      1. make sure your have the "unsupported browser" feature enabled in template manager
      2. you can also try putting this line in the head section of your templates index.php file (remember that it will get overwritten by templates upgrades though)
      <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=Edge" />

      Regards, Mark.

    • http://webdesign.about.com/od/metataglibraries/p/x-ua-compatible-meta-tag.htm it tells Ie to use the highest version it can.

    • Hi Mark,

I've tried all the various X-UA codes and it doesn't seem to work. Is this because I'm using Joomla 3.0? In your opinion, is the only solution to downgrade to Joomla 2.5, or is there another solution?

    • Kevin4ctiv - welcome to the forums.

You need to switch you IE10 out of compatibility mode - the x-ua codes are unlikely to switch out of compatibility mode if that is what has been set in your browser. There is no difference between j3 and J2.5 in this regard.

Could you please post a URL to your site so we can look for you. Without a link to page where the problem is on your site it is quite hard for us to provide the best solution due to so many variables. We try to provide file names and line numbers for code changes and if changes have already been made then our advice may be incorrect.

      Regards, Mark.

    • So I tried your site and it opened in standards mode ok? (not compatibility mode)

But, I also looked at the HTML and I don't see the x-ua code in there? Which file did you change to add the code? It should be index.php in /templates/rt_chapelco - did you clear server cache after making this change?

      Regards, Mark.

    • Hi Mark, thanks. I put the code back in very next line after <head> in the template's index.php. We cleared the server cache, but I'm still getting the same problem???

    • Ok I see the line of code now - but there's not much more I can add - If IE has been switched to compatibility mode you must manually switch out of that mode. Also, you don't seem to have "IE7 redirect" "unsupported browser" option enabled in template manager either?

      Regards, Mark.
