    SOLVED Error: 0 - Serialization of 'SimpleXMLElement' is not

    Posted 11 years 3 months ago
    • Hi All,

      I've just updated to Joomla version 3.1.5 on my site and it's knocked out my index page returning the following error code;

      This image is hidden for guests.
      Please log in or register to see it.

      However parts of the site are still active and seem ok, if you next go to: as it will enable you to actually look around the rest of the site if needed but I have to admit that I've never seen that About Us page before as that Menu Item should be / is a 'Text Seperator' as seen below in my admin panel;

      This image is hidden for guests.
      Please log in or register to see it.

      I can login and access it seems ALL admin panel content.

      My web host is running the following for the Joomla install it sits on and I have turned on max error reporting;

      Database Version 5.5.31
      Database Collation utf8_general_ci
      PHP Version 5.3.26
      Web Server Apache/2.4.4 (Unix)
      Joomla! Version Joomla! 3.1.5 Stable [ Ember ] 01-August-2013 14:00 GMT

      My Community Builder 1.9 install seems untouched also and I can login, register or retrieve lost password.

      I read something on another topic on this error a few days ago about their being a possible PHP error on a certain version but the person who posted it never got back to the moderator in that thread and I thought I would start a new thread rather than hi-jacking.

      You will notice I've lost FontAwesome Icons, I've a seperate support topic posted on that so just wanted you to know I'm aware of it.

      I really hope somebody can give me some good news and help me get to the bottom of this, it would be much appreciated.

      Regards,

    • Check your extensions, your other pages work fine so i'm pretty sure that some code on the home page is causing this.
    • Please reply with a direct link to the issue & create a new thread for each new issue.

    • Prim,

      Thanks for the reply, I feared disabling extensions one by one and then clearing site / server cache and browser cache and then refreshing the homepage, repeating until I locate the offending one was the only real way forward.

      I will do that right now, however as daft as this sounds, is there anyway I am not yet aware of that I can locate the install dates of extensions to see in effect which were say installed in the last few days, as in Extension Manager>Manage there is a date column but it would be awesome for some future version of Joomla (I'll pop this in their own forums suggestions section too) to have another "Date of Install" as surely that can be populated as the database would know somewhere when the given extension(s) were installed or changed etc.

      This would then make it much simpler for all Joomla users I feel to narrow down offending error causing extensions, plugins, modules and so sorth, thus cutting one's time massively and being able to work much quicker / time is money as they say even when you don't get paid for an install your working on.

      Just a thought that cropped in to my head and wondered if there's any legs in the above kind of feature request or worth putting to the main joomla developers?

    • Prim,

      I have managed to narrow it down and it seems to be coming from the RokSprocket extension.

      I was going through disabling and refreshing my homepage until I stumbled across the following that brought my homepage back but not after having to go in to my database and manually disable the rok_sprocket_plugin, as when I enabled this again, to see if this was the one out of the three, it knocked out my admin too.

      This image is hidden for guests.
      Please log in or register to see it.

      This is back in my joomla admin panel after manually disabling;

      This is again back in my joomla admin panel after re-enabling the other two Rok Sprocket elements of the extension with no ill effect to either my front end and the homepage back in order (minus currently whatever the system rok sprocket plugin delivers) or the backend admin panel

      I don't know where to go from here though, as you can see I have the latest Rok Sprocket 2.0.2 version and don't know why this error has suddenly presented itself within the extension.

      I'll await a mods input as to what my next move should be and I hope the above information is of use to rockettheme developers in finding a resolution to this particular issue going forward.

      I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    • Prim,

      Apologies about another update but I've just found out even more by just thinking further and it's hard to explain in text what I was seeing whilst doing the above things I mention in the last message to you.7

      Anyway, I decided to publish the System Rok Sprocket Plugin again and this time it didn't knock out my homepage or my admin panel like mentioned above in the last attempt.

      I then disabled the following;

      This image is hidden for guests.
      Please log in or register to see it.

      When I re-enabled it, it knocked out my homepage and gave me the original homepage error;
      Error: 0 - Serialization of 'SimpleXMLElement' is not allowed

      So what do I need to do in this situation as it's not a RT extension it seems in the end that's causing this issue.

    • So a new update if you don't mind?

      I haven't touched a sausage since finally putting the above issues to bed, however now I cannot access my installs backend Menu Manager>Main Menu as it just returns me a;

      "Error displaying the error page: Application Instantiation Error"

      I can select "Add New Menu Item" to the Main Menu and it enable me to add a new item, save it and show it as expected on the front end.

      *perplexed*

      Any bright ideas fellow RT'ers please?

    • hi there,

      thank you for providing such a detailed report about your debugging activities.
      i'd love to take a look at your site and try to replicate this issue issue locally.
      at this point i am not sure if it's an issue with roksprocket or k2 or something else, but i have seen there is another member with the same issue here:
      www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=61..._v=viewtopic#p999178

      if you like send me your link and super admin details via pm so i can take a closer look.

      thanks, kat :)

    • Hi Kat,

      Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. I'd found that whilst I had K2 loading jquery which meant I had jquery loading a couple of instances, it seems my Kunena forum may have been the culprit.

      I've carried out what their dev team advised as per this thread:

      http://www.kunena.org/forum/k-3-0-kunena-latest-m/128255-possible-kunena-latest-issue#147259

      and low and behold my homepage appeared all 100% back to normal. :cheesy:

      Apologies if this doesn't help the other person who posted in the link you gave.

    • I'm getting the same error.
      There are only rokmodules running on the home page.

      The error only appears on first load, or if I delete cache, if I refresh the page after the error then the error goes away.
      I tried deleting cache files one at a time and the culprit for me is roksprocket.
      I'm going to try reload roksprocket. I'll let you know what happens.
