404 errors when using URL Rewriting - RT Lumiere

    • I am having this problem with a Joomla 2.5.11 site using the RT Lumiere template. I have renamed the htaccess.txt file to .htaccess. My URLs are (example) www.tomharris.us/index.php/coaching , but I want to get rid of the "index.php" in the URL. When I select Yes for Use URL Rewriting, I get 404s on all pages (except the Home page). The exact message is:
      Not Found
The requested URL /about was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an
      ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I have a couple of other J 2.5 sites with other RT templates that have never had this issue. One is a 2.5.11 and one is a 2.5.2. I can't see any differences between these sites that could cause this issue.

      Any ideas?

      Thanks!

      Tom Harris

    • Make sure that your webserver has a mod_rewrite apache module installed. Also, I would strongly suggest you to update your Joomla to the latest 2.5.18 (at the time of writing this)

    • I know that the Apache mod_rewrite module in installed on the server because I have a number of other Joomla sites on the same server. Again, I have other J 2.5 sites that do not have this problem. I will try to upgrade to 2.5.18, as you suggest (though I'll have to learn how to do that). Any further suggestions?

    • Yes, I have further suggestions. Please consult also Joomla official forum to see what people there will say because this kind of things are not specific to the template but to the Joomla itself
