SOLVED Site Locks with SEF URLs enabled

Posted 10 years 1 month ago
    • I have a quick question.

I've installed the Osmosis theme with the Rocket Launcher (newest version). Every time I enable "Search Engine Friendly URLs" in Site Settings, the entire site times out (no error... it just times out). When I disable "Search Engine Friendly URLs", the web site works normal.

When I use any other template that came bundled with the Osmosis Rocket Launcher (protostar, beez3), everything works fine with SEF URLs. I only have a problem when I choose Osmosis theme as my default.

I've read all the different instructions in RocketTheme's forums, and none of them seem to solve the problem. I'm really at a loss.

I tried enabling the .htaccess file (as was suggested on another forum), but it didn't help at all. As I stated before, everything works great when SEF URLs are disabled. It's only when I enable it, then I have a problem.

We checked the error log files, and no errors are listed.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • Are you on an Apache server? if so, you HAVE to rename htaccess.txt to .htaccess...

make sure your TMP and LOG Paths are correct in the Global config

Yes, everything is set up the way you have described.

Once again, it only times out when SEF URLs are enabled.

    • That redirect plugin seems to be screwing stuff up...

you did not have htaccess.txt renamed to .htaccess... I've done this...

I don't believe the offline or coming soon pages play well with a multi language site... but your site is working fine now with SEF enabled

I renamed .htaccess before, and it didn't do anything before, so I changed it back.

Yes, I know that the Offline and Coming Soon pages don't work. (The same thing was happening before.) It seems you are running into the same problems I'm running into.

Is there anyway to fix this so the Osmosis Offline and Coming Soon pages work?

(Also, did you disable the redirect plugin? Just curious to know what things were changed.)

    • I did disable the redirect plugin...

I think you've got some severe limitations on PHP Memory and some other server-side stuff I can't put my finger on... the 503 errors are very weird and indicative of an overloaded server...

      Matt,

Thanks so much for trying to help. I really appreciate you trying.

However, to be honest, you didn't do anything. All you did was disable the Coming Soon page in the Osmosis theme, and then turn on Site Offline in the Global Settings. It had nothing to do with .htaccess.

The problem still exists. Is there a way to have the Osmosis "Coming Soon" page running with SEF URLs enabled?

The errors only show when you set "Site Offline" in the Global Settings, or if you set the "Coming Soon" page in the Osmosis theme along with SEF URLs enabled. They never show any other time.

Everything else runs fine. It has nothing to do with an overloaded server.

As I said, with the other default themes, I don't have the SEF URLs problems. I only have it with the Osmosis theme.

Is there a way to have the Osmosis "Coming Soon" page running with SEF URLs enabled?
