    SOLVED folders in admisnstrator/cache

Posted 8 years 9 months ago
    • Several of my sites have been hacked in the past. So, I am learning by doing when it comes to security.

I am seeing frequently updated folders in a couple of my sites in the puglic_html/administrator/cache folders called .system, com-modules, com_plugins and fof.

The changed dates on at least some of the files are the same as access log entries for get/200 and post/303 to the puglic_html/administrator/index.php from somewhere in the Ukraine

      That site is using rt_myriad

Are these usual folders, are they needed? Can I remove them?

    • Hi there,

Cache is usually just stored files and can normally be deleted. If you try clearing Joomla cache some of them will disappear.

For security purposes I always recommend Admin Tools from Akeeba. We always create the special word for access to admin and that alone deters most kiddie hackers. Combined with auto-banning of IP addresses and most hackers move on to an easier target.

I also encourage my clients to pay for watchful.li to get emails when extensions or Joomla needs updating. For the cost it is worth it if it stops you getting hacked.

      Hope this helps 8)

    • Thanks, David. Backed 'em up. Deleted the files. They still work. So far so good.

Thanks for the tip on watchfu.li will keep that in mind.

Changing name of administrator/folder isn't a part of Joomla, as far as I know, is it?

    • Hi there,

No, the admin folder is protected via Admin Tools and a further htaccess. If you get the new keyword wrong you just get redirected to the home page.
