Joomla Site Looking For Home.html instead of index.php
Posted 16 years 10 months ago
Hi
I manage a site
www.sbguk.co.uk
which has been online for over 4 years. during that time I have changed the format many times but for the last year or so it has been a joomla driven site. I have been using the Versatility 3 template for about 6 months now with no problems but for some reason since Friday the site has gone offline.
I have no problem logging into the backend, nor do I have a problem if I type the url as
www.sbguk.co.uk/index.php
but if I just type the domain name which incidentally forwards to
www.karltanswell.co.uk
I get a 404 error as the domain is looking for a home.html page rather than the default index.php page. Same if I type
www.karltanswell.co.uk
I have no idea why. Can anybody help? I really need this sitw up and running asap.

Hello GollumX,
I was having the same problem, I was having my domain name serveup the "index of" page vs. going to the index page. I added the - DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.htm - instructions to the top of the .htaccess page, and now the site opens as it should.
My question is; will this create any security problems that the .htaccess page as setup with all the security hack defeat code was meant to keep out?

As long as you haven't removed any of the 'security' code, no. The latest version of the htaccess file distributed with Joomla 1.5.9 (designed for use when you have SEF feature turned on) redirects ALL requests through index.php (including errors like 404, 403, etc)
