Template File Not Found (After moving hosts)

I am moving my site to a new host. I have copied over all of the files via ftp, have imported the database to the new host via phpmyadmin, and have updated the joomla configuration file with the new information. I thought that was all that was needed, but when I try to go to my site, all I see is a message in neon green text reading:
Template File Not Found! Looking for template:
Where did I go wrong?

Yes, all of the files are there. The thing about it is, where it says "Looking for template:", it looks like it should list the name of the template there, but it doesn't, so maybe it doesn't know what template its looking for.
I'm thinking maybe its something to do with the way the database imported. Thats just a wild guess on my part though. I really have no idea, but I do not know what else to try, so I'll play around with that and see if it helps. I was just hoping this was a known issue with a quick fix.

I had exported via phpmyadmin on the original host, then imported via phpmyadmin on the new host, then updated the configuration file to reflect the new database name, user name and password.
I had a hang up initially due to there being two different versions of phpmyadmin. I'm pretty sure that's what the problem is. I think the new host offers to move sites for free, so I'm thinking about just asking them to move the database and see if that works.

Well, if it was two different versions of phpmyadmin, it shouldnt have mattered, it wouldnt have imported if it didnt like it..
are you sure you got all the files uploaded?

I'll tell you, now I'm more confused than ever.
I decided to skip past this site and try the next one, because I have about 4 sites that need to be moved away from the old host so I can close the account. So this time I tried moving a site that is using the hyperion template, with joomla 1.5. I was hoping maybe the newer version would make it easier somehow.
Well, it seemed to go off without a hitch, at first. The files uploaded smoothly, the database actually imported, and all was well with the world until I actually looked at the site. It's basically the same as what was originally installed in hyperion. All of my content is gone and all of my menus have reverted back to the original template menus. I was hoping that my work would still be in the admin control panel so that all I had to do was enable it, but no such luck, it's MIA.
What the heck does it take to move one of these sites to a new host without losing all of your data?
I honestly wish I still just coded the html by hand. It may have taken me a little longer to add an article, but I never had problems that caused me to lose all of my work. Color me frustrated.

Basically it is fool proof if you download something like JoomPack Install and Run it, save the sql fil.
FTP ALLLLL the data down from the old, FTP it up into the new.
Start a new data base - note the details host, db name user and pass
change the name of the configuration.php file
The install willl go on normally when you get to install sample data, DO NOT INSTALL SAMPLE DATA... go below it, and select MIGRATION data, and install the file you saved from the JoomPAck
Then you shoudl complete the install, and you should be fine - Send moderators PMs ONLY if they request it.

I must have done something wrong then, because I haven't done anything in regards to installing sample data since the time that I first installed the template on the old host. On the new host, all I did was:
1. Copied over all the files by ftp
2. Created a new database and imported the data via phpmyadmin
3. Changed configuration.php to reflect the new database name, user, pass.
I thought it should be as easy as that. Did I overlook something?
Anyway, when I moved to the new server, I was never asked about importing sample data. With this site using hyperion, it's not such a big deal because it had very little data and I can copy and paste it all manually if needed. The first site is more of a concern to me, because there are thousands of old news articles that are all indexed by google and yahoo, and I really hate to think about losing those files. Maybe I will just stick with the existing host, even though I really have become fed up with their service.
