After a Joomla! update Portal does not load normally
Posted 16 years 3 weeks ago
I have been staying with an older version of Joomla! for quite some time - mainly because the first update I tried just broke the whole system.
Joomla 1.0.X is now at 1.0.15 and that does not destroy the site. However, the portal does not load normally - i.e. the module positions do not load - only the "frontpage" content.
If you click on the "Home" button (vgHome), this creates a URL with com_Frontpage.... and the page loads as expected.
Note: on te test site I have loaded the latest version of the COLORMATIC template, and overwritten all customizations - to be sure it was not a customization issue. The other slight change is to the menu, which now "wraps" to the forums converted from SMF to PHPBB3.
But my only real question is what is causing the module positions to not load?

The vgHome link is how it should look. Just to be sure we understand each other. So the "portal" or URL (nothing added) name does not load as expected.
p.s. How do I change the link value? I dont see how - as it is the kink Joomla generated when I created the menu item (Component -- FrontPage) See attached.

First off, thank you for your suggestions. However, I think you do not understand my problem.
I would like to module positions (with content such as "Lastet News" loading in position user3, and advert1, once I activate a module again.)
With the new entry added - a URL link as you suggested, Joomla! is still adding an ItemID to the URL. Further, I see that the order of the Front Page articles is different, and I suspect the modules are not showing up because I have not gone thru all the mods and adding them to this new menu item.
Two questions: why should this work? ItemID seems to be in the URL regardless.
And can you explain the cause of my problem, i.e. my original question? Why are the template module positions not loading for
http://felt-1.rootvg.net
or what it becomes automatically
http://felt-1.rootvg.net/index.php
?

I am hoping for further suggestions. Prim's have not resolved the issue.
as i understand it, index.php should trigger the default template's index.php which is what actually loads the pages. I know the template index.php file is accessed and being read - as the correct menu is loaded, but the modules positions are not being filled. Only the default header and footer (external to the templates) are loading.
However, when the com_frontpage module is loaded via a mouse button, again the template index.php is called - and this time the module positions are being loaded.
Any suggestions where to search further? Or better - a been there, done that - this is what is happening - solution!!

I haven't read your links yet, but when I have Joomla 1.0.12 as base, no redirection is needed. Joomla 1.0.13 gave all kinds of errors, so I never used it, and I never bothered to test 1.0.14.
In other words, yesterday, on my live system, I installed the Joomla 1.0.15 updates, and the template module positions stopped loading. With a restore of the backup - to Joomla 1.0.12, the template module positions load by default as expected.
Assuming it is a redirect rule in .htaccess - that would be a workaround - but the cause, or change in behavior is still unidentified.
My hope is that there is an explanation for this change in behavior by Joomla! 1.0.15 and the colormatic template, compared to Joomla 1.0.12.
I know the page can load properly - because that is what the menu page does when the menu option is pressed.
Reflecting, it is as if the correct menu settings (the varies settings, i.e. when defining a module, you identify which menus it is visible) is not being seen correctly by the template. The URL link you suggested only loads the site mods that have ALL as characteristic (e.g., right).
I do have some understanding of how the process works, but not enough to quickly debug this change in behavior.
