Spam files repeatedly injected on host

  • Spam files repeatedly injected on host

    • Hi everyone,

I am perplexed by how these spam files keep showing up in my Joomla installations on my host, (Bluehost).

The files look like this on the directory:

This image is hidden for guests.
Please log in or register to see it.

and their source looks like this:

This image is hidden for guests.
Please log in or register to see it.

I delete them all, they show up again the next day.

I've followed security procedures but apparently I have missed something.

      Any help?

are you using sh404sef? its a very useful for sef, but is also a security component and might help in your case.

    • Have you upgraded to the latest Joomla version? Looks like you have been hacked :(

    • Thanks for the help, guys and gal, I will go over your suggestions and get back to you as to the outcome, hopefully to help someone else that comes up with this junk in their trunk.

These files are quite an annoyance. Doesn't bring the site down, in fact doesn't show up at all on the website, just on the host.

My dad, who helps me with mundane tasks, was deleting these things the other day with ftp and accidentally deleted the configuration file which DID bring the website down. He was quite upset with himself as this was a new paying website. The home directory backup tar.gz file I downloaded from Bluehost came up broken when I tried to extract it with 7-zip and pull the config file out. (We will most definitely be looking into a better way to back up).

I was able to copy a configuration file from another installation and painstakingly change the paths. Proved to be pretty tough, I was about to give up and embark on a weeks worth of work to recreate the site when I noticed a wayward comma. The file worked, the website was back up, and my dad was saved from a downward spiral of self-loathing. :D

This is quite a picky business we're in, eh? :)

    • JoomlaPack is a great tool for making backups :)
