    Something's wrong...

Posted 16 years 2 months ago
    • I don't know what I did, but it's been a problem I've been working around, and I've had it.

Two things - when I try to install just about anything through the install componant, I get errors (but only randomly). Sometimes it ends up with a white screen and an error message and then sometimes when that happens, it's installed, but it doesn't show up, and somtimes it's not installed.

Then, ANY of my image uploaders (JCE or not) have errors. When I hit the browse button, the input box disappears, and I then nothing happens.

These may be related, maybe not...anyone, can someone help me "troubleshoot" my site? I'm a great learner, so you could just lead to some helpful instructions...

    • hi maria!

the problems you are facing could have several reasons.

when you are trying to install anýthing, which of the 3 available options in the installation screen are you using for this? you may try all of the given option, personally i always use the first one as i have had the best experience with it. also, somtimes wrong server settings (permissions) or using a host who is not really configured well to run joomla can cause these kind of issues.

sometimes the browser in use could be the problem as well, so you might want to change and see. lately we saw frequent errors in upload and install attempts, because the file packages have been downloaded using Google Chrome. try another browser to download the files from rockettheme and to do the install just to see if it makes a difference.

also make sure after each unsuccessful install attempt, that this attempt has not written any files yet or you will have to get them removed manually using your ftp or file manager. same for any new tables inside your database, unless you remove them completly they will most likely make any further install attempts useless. but of course be very careful with removing any files and tables and keep a proper backup, just in case.

about the image uploaders, i am wondering which joomla version you are using. there have been reported problems in joomla 1.5.8, so an update to the latest version might help or at least taking the steps given here: forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=430&t=343528
an alternative would be to upload all images via ftp.

please let us know if this was helpful and if you need anything else to get your site working properly. :)

    • I found the information on the image buttons helpful - thanks! As far as browsers, I'm using mozilla and that's what I usually use...I don't know...

I installed something yesterday and it worked beautifully...I never know.

      Appreciate the help, though...

    • hi again!

glad to hear that you could do installs yesterday without problems.

yes, mozilla is the best choice to work with, all the other browsers mainly just to check if the sites look ok with them too.

just post back when you experience further problems. :)
