Split Menu - Horizontal Sub-Menu - How?????

I am trying to get the MixxMag Split Menu to look like the Terran Tribune Split menu
In other words a horizontal bar and a sub-menu horizontal bar below it.
I have built the mainmenu items and sub-menu items exactly like Terran Tribune
But they do not show up on MixxMag
Does anyone have any idea why this is?
I do note that for Terran Tribune, in the modules positions diagram, there is some white space between the toolbar and the header / header2 area.
If this is the problem, how do you add white space to a template without messing up everything?
