Question about upgrading to PHP5

  • Question about upgrading to PHP5

Posted 16 years 1 month ago
    • Hello All,

I have a Catalyst template that i am running on godaddy.

      Joomla! Version: Joomla! 1.5.6 Production/Stable [ Vusani ] 12-August-2008 22:00 GMT
      Web Server: Apache
      PHP Version: 4.3.11

I tried to install the new version of Joomfish and quickly discovered that this was only possible with the version 5 of PHP. I am just about to upgrade, but I wanted to check with anyone who might be able to make this risky manuvure less fearful. I feel like I am playing russian roulette and hoping the bullet is not in this chamber. I do not know what might happen to the Catalyst template?

      Thanks,

      Andy

    • hi,

upgrading to php 5 for sure will be best idea. joomla itself recommends to use php 5
php 5 will not break catalyst template

      for safety upgrading,
if you are on managed dedicated hosting, ask them to take care this for you
      if you are on self-managed:
      - if you have whm installed, you can upgrade php easily with easyapache
      - if you don't have whm, you can upgrade for example with yum

just re-check again whether in your server you have other scripts(non joomla) which are compatible with php 5 or not. if they are not, just throw away those scripts :cheesy: joke
