    Catergory Blog Layout

Posted 16 years 1 month ago
    • Posted this before - wondered why it seemed to have been read by loads and ignored - then clicked that I'd put it in General Discussion. Duh. Hopefully this is a more suitable place for a techy enquiry... :)

      Hi,

1st post - new to joomla - new to rocketthemes, so bear with me. :D

Creating this site www.tbgltd.net/surplus/ (temporary url for now) using the Simplix theme (older theme I know, but suited the layout I needed), 1.5 version.

The individual For Sale pages are displaying as I'd expect www.tbgltd.net/surplus/forsale/edwardian

But when you go to the Show ALL list www.tbgltd.net/surplus/forsale/list which is created as a Category Blog Layout, the articles act like they are in a Column, when as far as I can tell, they are not. I've messed with the settings fo leading articles etc, makes no difference.

Oddly, if you type in an extremely long article name, it seems to force the column width wider, and everything starts to display again as it should.

As an extra test of what was happening, I tried shrinking the image in the lead article. The copy ran up the side of it again as it should, but only up to the point where it hit the Column Width restriction that seems to be there.

Thinking it was a Module issue, I did ?tp=1 on the Article pages and the pages alter to show the User 4 and 5 areas. Its almost like the blog layout is unable to force the empty module positions out of the way - where the article pages are doing so just fine?

Anyone got any ideas as to whats happening?

P.S. I've given up on getting the For Sale menu to automatically list the articles from within a category (to make an automatically updated menu) - but if anyone can advise on that, please do!

    • Under your main menu, go to the page you have the blog layout on. There is a setting for "Leading" articles and one for "Intro" articles. Try setting the "Leading" articles to 20 and the "Intro" articles to 0. The "leading" article is usually the full page width.

FYI - the intend of the blog layout is to set up a columned article intro layout. The "intro" articles (vs. leading) are usually multi-columned (and therefore narrower)...

      Let me know...
    • When solved, please modify your original post and add (SOLVED) into the subject AND change your icon to the green check.  This helps people know they can find a solution in your post if they have the same problem.

    • Thanks for that, I've tried all combos of those settings, to no avail (its actually set at leading articles 50, intro 0, columns 0 (as 1 didn't work, figured I'd try it), links 0 at the moment)

Everything says that the leading article Should be full width, but its getting 'full width' from somewhere, like the width of the column is being defined by something else in error.

Look what happens if I use a Long title for the article as opposed to short - it forces the column wider, and it then displays as it does in the individual article pages.
