DESPERATION new Install Ruined Sub Folder Joomla Installs

Posted 16 years 1 month ago
    • I just did an incredibly stupid thing. I tried to do a fresh Hyperion Rocketlauncher install over an existing joomla install. This is my main root install and I have multiple sub-folder joomla installs. I foolishly thought that the re-install wouldn't effect my sub-folder installs but now I am getting: "Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL" error messages for my sub-folder joomla sites.

Also I, again foolishly, thought that a rocketlauncher install would wipe all files and install fresh. But when I went to put in my fresh install mysite.com it gave me the "please uninstall the installation folder" warning as if I had already installed Joomla. Probably because exisiting files remained from the original install.

PLEASE I hope someone can give me a relatively painless fix for my foolishness as my sub-folder joomla sites are my business and now I am completely down.

    • The install should affect the sub-folders.

If you uploaded the files from the RL to the root, it would have overwritten and folders in the root with the same name from a previous install, unless you deleted them first, but would have left the sub-folders intact.

I can't see a reason or tell you why the sites within sub-folders are corrupt.

But you could check the configuration.php files and compare the DBs, usernames, and passwords against the actual DBs.

As far as the new install, you you are trying to run an install on an exiting DB, Joomla (in the DB) thinks it's already installed and when you try run the install again, it sees the installation folder and tells you to delete it.

If you are running the install and want to use the same database, you have to drop the tables first in phpMyAdmin.

Thanks for your response. The suggestion of checking the user names and passwords against the databases really helped me when talking to my hosting service. When the new rocketlauncher was used over the existing installation it changed the username and password associated with the database. With an existing .htaaccess redirect that I created before and forgot was in place that was corrupting the communication with the sub folders database.

A little plug for Hostmonster my hosting service. The were really great in diagnosing and helping to solve my issue. The sites were back up quickly.
