configuration and link trouble

    • Howdy everyone,

I'm fairly new to Joomla, but have read quite a few things (tutorials, etc.), so I hope I'm not totally asking questions that have already been answered (and I hope this is the right part of the forum to ask these questions...).

#1) I'm having trouble configuring the site, as Joomla keeps telling me "params.ini is unwriteable". The only thing I'm able to do is go into Filezilla and constantly change the permissions, because it resets it automatically every time I make a change. I am editing the site "live", though - which I read is not a good idea. Should I just take it down for a while until I've finished, and edit it on XAMPP? Would that solve the problems I've been having with permissions and the params.ini file?

#2) You can access the site at www.miamibiblechurch.org/Joomla_RT_HiveMind_j15/ . Eventually it's going to look like a church's website, but for now, if you click on the page links at the top of the page (Home, Features, Typography, Tutorials, J! stuff), the page that it takes you to has no formatting. So if I go to the Tutorials page, it loses the HiveMind formatting that is on the home page. Is that something that I changed accidentally? Or is there an easy way to fix that?

I really appreciate the help! I've read a few threads in this forum and y'all sound like a welcoming bunch of people. I'm enjoying my introduction to the wonderful world of Joomla. :)

      Thanks again,
      Anthony

    • Hello,

#1) It's normal and you may ignore it as far as you can edit the parameter in the template manager. You may check  this

#2) It may related to your improper setting of the SEF stuffs. You may check  this

    • Thanks Arifin!

Question about #2 - I renamed the htaccess.txt to .htaccess... and then enabled mod_rewrite, but now when I click on one of the page links at the top of the site, I get a 404 page not found error. I'm using Network Solutions with a Unix server. Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

Also, I never have been able to enable FTP inside of global configuration... is that something I should worry about? What port should I use? And, would the host be "localhost" or the one provided by Network Solutions?

Thanks again... really appreciate the help!

UDPATE: I just disabled "search engine friendly URLs" and everything works great. Thanks!

I think you need to ask your hosting whether mod_rewrite is enabled or not in your server.

By default FTP port is 21. You need to confirm this with your hosting. They should provide you how to access via FTP

If you don't need the SEF feature, for sure by disabling it, your problem will be gone...
