    multi-users for joomla?

Posted 16 years 5 days ago
    • Is it posible for Joomla to have diferent user groups, and to allow each group to have acces (when a user of that group has logged on) to see diferent "pages" or parts of the site, that are not accesible for other group members?
if its necesary to use a special plugin, pls post the link.

or is there just the dual class public/registered and you cant make any distinction between registered members.

tx for the help and tips in advance.

    • If you want to define users and groups beyond the Joomla core Public, Registered, Special, you'll need to use some type of ALC component.

    • Access Level Control.

There are plenty of 3rd party components that do this, in the JED (Joomla Extension Directory) on jooomla.org, search for 'ALC' or 'hide content'.

If you can't get it sorted, post back.....

      :D

    • Nothing in particular, in general my sites don't need this type of control.

I suggest creating a test setup and trying out various components 'till you find one that suits / meets your needs.

    • well, I need to rig a main site for a main office, and 8 sub-parts for their independent local branches. at first I thought making 8 subdomains and installing 8 sites , give them the admin keys to each branch and make a safe backup of the Mysql every now and then. they want each of the branches to have a separate login acces and info. if they managed to mess it up, Id just press the reset button to the last backup copy.

then I put my thinking cap on (maybe back to front, lol) and figured that if joomla would suport multi-user groups, i could solve the issue with one site, and separate the registered users in groups, displaying only their info....

life is never easy when u depend on third parties, lol.

Im I looking at the correct answer thru ALC management? or should I turn to be a farmer and live an easier life under the sun, get a tan and all that :)

    • IMHO one site with the proper ALC control is the way to go.

Hopefully one of the more 'brainy' moderators or users with experience with this will jump in and offer some advice.
    • Thanks,
      jim
