How do i target where an article will load in the main area?

I am using mixxmag template.
Is there a simple way to target where an article will load?
Right now the clicked article loads under the featured content where you can't even see it actually loaded.
I need the clicked article to load ABOVE or even replace the main area content.
I feel as though I must be missing something simple.
Is there a way to create a second 'frontpage' - i'm lost...
Pleae help!
