How to put a widget in the sidebar of theme

Hi,
I want to put one box.net widget in the sidebar of my solar sentinel theme. What do I need to do? Actually I am very new to joomla. So please anyone help me.
I tried to create one module for this but I think module cannot be created right from scratch in the admin panel and for me coding the module from scratch is impossible.
Actually I am a wordpress user so you can understand why this question.
