    Transitioning to New Template+Joomla 1.5?

Posted 15 years 7 months ago
    • Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the place to ask this questions, but I'll give it a shot.

We currently have a site using a Joomlart template and Joomla version 1.0.15 (publicmediadigest.org). On our host server (Bluehost) I set up a new subdomain where I installed Rocket Theme Solar Sentinel and Joomla 1.5 using Rocket Launcher (redesign.publicmediadigest.org). When the new template is ready to go public what do I need to do in order for the switch to happen from old to new? Is it really complicated and given my novice experience will I need to hire someone to help?

    • If they are both on the same physical server you should just be able to remove the old site files completely and move all of the files in the sub-domain to the html (or whatever your hosting provider calls it) and go from there. If both databases are localhost then you should be good to go. Then edit the configuration.php file to point to the correct locations for directories where appropriate.

However, there is one gotcha that might come up. If you are using a SEF component there may be some tweaking needed.

Some components also track files and look for certain directories (DocMAN being one) so be sure and check and make sure that after the migration the directories are correct.
