Hello. Does anyone have any idea why the Rockweather and Rockstock modules take up to 30 seconds to load the page when they have to write to cache (every 15 minutes)? Do you think this is a hosting issue? Although, I am on a dedicated server and Moset's tree writes to the same cache file for listing feeds and there is no delay, so it doesn't seem to be a disk-write problem. The difference of course is that Rockstock and Rockweather must bring outside feed data in. It's just that I don't remember this happening until recently. Ever heard of this? Could it somehow be a slowdown from the datacenter network, or does this happen with Rockstock/Rockweather? I noticed that the Joomla Security Feed in the Admin takes as long to write too, so that's throwing me off. I disabled that so I could log in quicker. All other aspects of the site performance is great.
Thank you for the reply. I have determined through much testing that it is the hosting environment I'm in. Even though I am on a dedicated server, there is some weird IP/routing issue in their network. Everytime the weather module (or any similar feed) has to pull outside data to write to the cache directory, it gets held up for 30 seconds. For the next 15 minutes... it's fine. Any feed that writes to the same cache directory (/cache) that only pulls local data (i.e. Moset's Tree) this does not happen.
I've re-created the site (using Joomlapack - so exact copy) in other environments, and the problem doesn't exist. I'm moving ASAP. I won't mention who it is because they've had enough bad publicity... unless you ask... or they don't give me a refund. Tech support was impossible.
Ah, I see... Yes, sometimes server which isn't fully compatible with Joomla always bring problem. Glad to hear you find another one that supports your site
I will mark this thread as solved
