Keywords for SEO and content question

This is a general question about SEO and my Joomla based web sites. I notice that on every single article you can include a series of keywords as well as a meta description. I was wondering how far I should go, or shouldn't go as far as putting keywords on these individual article pages.
Should I be including all my site keywords and then more or should I just include keywords for that particular article because my basic site keywords are already there. Thanks.

I no longer use any kind of SEO extensions, I find that J1.5 can be configured for the search engines without the need for any extensions. For the homepage my heading and description goes in global configuration. This means that any extensions such as photo galleries will still have the site global description. On all of the individual pages they all have their own description based on the content of that page. To be quite honest I don't really pay much attention to key words, the major search engines don't use them anymore and I have done various polls on some of my website so I know that the majority of people use Google, Yahoo or Bing, so these other search engine I am most interested in. I sometimes do they include some keywords but I pay most of my attention to the heading, plus giving the page a really good description that contains various major keywords.
I found that a meta-heading actually looks a lot better if it means something but also a contains keywords . I am convinced it will generate more hits from people looking down a search engine page. In other words, don't just pack your heading with keywords, make it mean something.
It may take many months to get it absolutely right because you need to keep a check on your statistics to find out exactly what keywords are being used and which ones are being overlooked. - That's a lot of good information for me to start out with. Thank you very much for sharing this information. Not sure if you are going to check up on this post again, but could you give me one of your examples of a heading so I get a better idea?
