JomComment & Login for Solar Sentinel

I want people to be able to comment on my articles. I believe this is what JomComment is for but I don't seem to have it set up properly. I use the Solar Sentinel template and am not sure if that perhaps has effected the module.
I see this comment under the JomSocial Activity Comment area:
"Please remember to patch your current template in order for activity comments to work!
If you are using a template that is not listed here, you need to add the codes HERE into the activity.index.php file in your template"
Only I don't know what this means or where to get this code?
Also, I have the "Login form" module in the login space for the solar sentinel template but it doesnt seem to work... any advise?
