Hi,
For some reason, after I have edited a css file a couple of times, it suddenly becomes unwritable - I can still edit it from the css backend but I cannot ftp the new style sheet. Do you know why this happens? Do I need to contact the server?

- If you can't upload anything to the server, it seems the problem is located in your server permission. You might want to contact your server hosting provider.

- If it's not the server settings it can be a setting in the FTP client which prevents a file to be overwritten.
- Please reply with a direct link to the issue & create a new thread for each new issue.

Great, thanks for the help guys.
Strangely, it shows up on the Joomla back end as well. You see that the style1.css file is unwritable. It wasn't about one hour ago. I had downloaded it, edited it and then uploaded it again. At some point, after uploading it with changes once or twice, the file suddenly became unwritable. I can still edit it from the Joomla css editor, but that is slow because there is now "find" function. I'd prefer to do it with my text editor but no longer can. Probably still a server issue?

- If you edit the file using editor, then re-upload it your server via ftp, did you get any error message? Have you tried to use another ftp client? If the problem still persists even with another ftp client, you might want to ask your hosting provider

Seth, I am having this experience as well. Until I discover a complete solution, I use Filezilla to change the permissions. To clarify ... if I change my style.css file in Joomla and save, the file then becomes unwritable - though it saved my changes. So, I open up Filezilla, find the file, right click and change the permissions. Even if you have to change it to a certain permission and then change it back to your desired setting, it should work. When I go back to edit the css file again - in Joomla, the file is writable. Not the best scenario, but workable.
On another note, when I installed out of rocketlauncher, I think I miffed up the ftp selections, thus initially making it impossible to change anything in the template by saving it, noting some issues with JFTP write/delete and that my params.ini file was unwritable. So, I disable FTP in the global configuration for the time being. Now, if I enable FTP, I get:
* JFTP::write: Bad response
* JFTP::delete: Bad response
* JFTP::write: Bad response
An Error has occurred! Unable to open configuration.php file to write!
I didn't mean to get off topic, but I wanted to preface my experience with what I believe may have something to do with it. Seems as though Prim and Arifin are likely correct in that a solutions lies in the server settings. However, I am able to work along as is and will seek a permanent solution when I am finished with my website build.
So, not a solution but a work-around.
Update!!! I kept having the problems and got annoyed with it, so I did a complete install. - Browsers: Chromium/Firefox (w/ Firebug)
Joomla Ver: 1.5.21
Gantry: 3.0.12
OS: Ubuntu 10.10/Win7
