Issues reinstalling Joomla with RocketLauncher

  • Issues reinstalling Joomla with RocketLauncher

    • I had a fine install of Joomla! Rocketlauncher on Friday night, but after some changes I made to modules, etc. I decided to reinstall Joomla.
This is where all went wrong.
The steps I took were: I deleted all the Joomla!-related files and my MySQL database and left on the server only the default files that were given to me when signing up with the host provider (400.shtml, 401.shtml, 403.shtml, 404.shtml, 500.php, 500.shtml, cg-bin, and default.html).
I created a blank configuration.php file with all-writes access (I didn't do this originally, when it worked, but figured I'd give it a shot after all else failed).
I redropped all the Rocketlauncher files through my FTP, all the same way as before. The errors vary each time-- last time before this I got as far as getting through with a MySQL database, and then I got an error message saying it couldn't connect to the database-- but the most recent time I'm getting this message (see attachment) about deleting the installation directory, and this is all before I make all the MySQL configurations and answer all the question on the Joomla! startup. I deleted it and that was no good-- just got another error message.
I've done this several times and each time, no go. Please, if anyone is out there who can help, please help! It takes like 1-1/2 hours to replace all these files, and my patience is wearing thin!
(If I could upload Joomla! through my host provider's "Simple Scripts" and then later add the sample content, that would be great-- they support that-- but I don't know if that's possible...)
      Thanks
      Annie

    • You can always try creating a new database and upload the Rocketlauncher zip to the server and extract it there.

So you mean, I can try erasing all of the RocketLauncher files on my root now; delete the current MySQL database; create a new MySQL database; drop the zipped RocketLauncher file to my root and unzip all of the files from the public_html folder?

Any other steps? Do I need to create a configuration.php file? Also, might there be any legacy files that I'm not deleting that are corrupting the install?

      Thanks so much

    • Yes you can do that :)
And no, creating configuration.php is not needed normally.

I feel like I might be going a little crazy and desperate... When I go to "unzip" the file in Transmit, it's "double-click" action wants it to put locally instead. Any way to unzip a folder inside Transmit itself?

    • In case anyone's wondering out there, this is a reply from Panic about Transmit & unzipping files on the server:
"Unzipping on the server is something we're looking into for a future version. It will require that you have SSH access to your server since FTP and SFTP themselves do not provide a way to unzip files."

      Oh lordy. Still trying...

    • I contacted my provider and had them nuke my server, so I just did a clean reinstall. Success! Anyone let me know what steps I should take if I make a mistake in setting up my site and need to reinstall Joomla! This was a very ineffectual way! (Do I only reinstall modules, and not the entire installation?)

    • Transmit and Cyberduck both just came out with new versions.

With "Transmit 4" I was able to unzip a file with root access to the server. However, permissions were set to the user "root" so it did not work.

When I logged in as the username I could not unzip with Transmit, so I guess I need to keep using cpanel File Manager.

If anyone finds a way to unzip with any Mac Ftp program, please update this thread.

      thank you
