Need to add animated banner to Fire template

I'm working on my first website with the help of a friend who is very experienced with computers, web design, coding, Joomla, Word Press and more. We tried the Rok Slide show but he was not happy with how it worked and he could not install the test in the banner location. He said he can change the image of the static banner but said something like he can not find where the code is coming from for the banner which I did not quite understand.
Bottom line is I'm trying to install an animated banner on my Joomla 1.5 Fire template. I know Flash is not compatible with Joomla but from what my friend said I don't know if he could find the location (?) to install an animated image anyway?
I did do some searching here and could not find a related topic. This is like one of the last things I need to do to the website to finish it

I talked to my friend again and what he said is he knows where the banner file is on the server and the file directory but he can not figure out where the theme is calling the image from. He looked in CSS and PHP and could not find anything.
He's also wondering if the Rok Stories is a good option and he can hack out the thumbnails...possibly. I'm interested in maintaining the template the way it is and maybe we can get the Rok Stories image long and short like the current Fire theme banner size and use like the left hand 1/5 of the banner area for some text or guess we can Photoshop the images and drop the text right onto the images and eliminate the text portion of the Rok Stories all together?
