How to use the -flush and -rotator suffix's

I am not sure how to use these suffix's. Could someone please explain this? I know you attach them into the CSS somewhere to remove the padding on a module (which is what I am trying to do) but I am not sure where I am suppose to do this. Am I suppose to do anything else as well?
Is there a tutorial? I had a look to no avail.
