Gantry error for joomla 1.5 & 1.7

Tried fresh installs of every variation of Gantry, Gantry bundle, bundle with template etc. Installs are fine (no install problems at all), but cannot continue when i want to change the template
The error reads:

This error comes on any install i make on all my test sites...
What to do? I cannot continue like this...

i have read all of the previous posts related to issues with file permissions 777 - 757 - 644.
i tried several types of permissions. installed previous versions for gantry, and still problem appears.
I don't know if this is related, but when i want to make a change on positions for my website, settings cannot be saved. (MAINBODY POSITIONS)
Although while browsing to other menu's positions are saved.
Any help will be appreciated , i am trying to find a solution for 48hours.
