Extend the sidebar or Add more "Content" modules

Hello
I'm trying to create about 3 or 4 rows of content, all which have a sidebar like the content-top and content-bottom positions.
But if I'm not wrong, that allows for only 2 rows of modules as shown here http://demo.gantry-framework.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=52&Itemid=55 .
Now in order to add more rows with the sidebar, which would be cleaner and easier:
1-Adding new module positions following this topic/posts http://www.rockettheme.com/forum/index.php?f=485&t=148942&rb_v=viewtopic#p737790 .
2- Somehow extending the sidebar to also extend with "maintop" and "mainbottom" positions?
