Cache is filling up ridiculously fast

    • As the subject says, the cache on my site is filling up and giving error a memory error. If i clear the cache, I immediately have 4 things in there. If I wait a couple of minutes that number shoots up to 19 or 20. It seems about after a day if I don't quick-clean the cache then I get a memory error stating that the system tried to allocate more memory, but was unsuccessful. Here is my site: www.semanticwebmanagement.com/summit-1/

      I am using Joomla 1.7.1

    • Anyone have any ideas? I really REALLY have to get this fixed. I found another issue that involves the cache.

When the cache fills up, the RokNewsPager goes crazy. All of the tabs open up so that you can read all of the body text in each of the tabs, and the paragraph text aligns itself to the far right so that you can only read the first couple of letters of each line. I will try to include a screenshot next time it happens if this is in anyway unclear.

When I clear the cache, just the title shows until you click on the tab which is correct, and the paragraphs are aligned correctly. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! This site has been moved to this address: www.summithomes.com/

    • Here is an image of what I am talking about: http://www.summithomes.com//images/homes/summit.jpg

Also, here is the error I get when the cache fills: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 3061735 bytes) in /home/semantic/public_html/summit/libraries/joomla/cache/storage/file.php on line 133

    • I am also seeing this issue on several of my sites.

Were you able to figure this out? It is very frustrating

Here is what I am using to build my sites
        Joomla 2.5.2
        Gantry
Global Settings > Progressive Cache -- On
        Jot Cache
        JReviews
        serveral other smaller extensions.

I thought it may have been related to JotCache but maybe it is Joomla or Gantry.

Let me know if you get this solved. Thanks! -- Steven

    • Thanks so much for the reply.

I worked with the JotCache Developer and we were able to trace the problem to the Global Configuration > Cache > On - Progressive Cache.

When the value is set to Progressive Cache there appears to be a memory leak and the memory usage keeps growing until the site breaks.

My solution was to set it to Conservative Cache. With this setting the site has not experienced any more of these issues.

Here is a Bug Squad thread about this issue:

Do you know if there is any documentation on the difference between conservative and progressive caching? -- Steven

    • Hi Steven, unfortunately that was one of the things I was searching desperately for when I realized my problem. So no, I haven't been able to find any official documentation.

    • I had this happen recently too, on a Camber/Gantry site. I shut off the cache completely, but have switched on Conservative this morning. If you google this error, others have seen it as well. I have no idea if Gantry is the common denominator or not.
