So let me understand this.. And please real free to correct me if i am wrong. but the Joomla 1.5 templates with the gantry framework were much more flexible from the GUI point of view i.e. one could quickly set colors from easy GUI gantry controls. now we have limited options and must resort to CSS file editing to make simple color changes.
What happened to progress this is a huge step backwards. I use to only start editing CSS files after the major things are done such as setting color. and I am not talking about preset options
Sorry if i am an idiot and if so please tell me why and what i should be doing different to get to the GUI options that use to be available in the gantry based templates in Joomla 1.5 from rockettheam

afaik there are no big differences between 1.5 and 2.5 templates (menu-less-pages is the only feature missing 2.5 due to changes in 2.5). Per-menu-item has been replaced by template styles.
Some templates are based on color choosers and some on presets.
Both ways have pros and cons.
But that has nothing to do with 1.5/2.5.
Be sure there will be templates with more color chooser options in the future as well as there will be preset-based ones.
This is less about 1.5 to 2.5 as the templates have the same functionality in general.
I think perhaps you are referring to some of the recent templates being more compact in admin and the colours already set in the presets. In some of the templates we have just used an accent colour so that appears in the styles tab, such as Voxel. In others such as Fresco the styling is mainly by images or simple css changes.
There is also a balance to be considered as Joomla 2.5 stores all of the settings in the database and therefore is another query. With templates becoming more refined and members looking for faster loading times we have to consider how best to utilise the current HTML and CSS options when styling the templates.
We know that for some of our members CSS can be challenging so we do give support when required. In fact, a large proportion of support requests are all about CSS styles and colours, and we answer these or point people in the right direction.
Hope this helps

Well it may not be about Joomla versions here but you no longer produce templates for the 1.5 version but it seems that the new 2.5 only templates are very limited in functionality versus previous templates.
My enjoyment with using Rockettheme has always been the ease in modifying the template to suite my website needs. the current release of templates appears to not provide a nice template but rather a nice website with a few different layouts.
Not what I have become to expect with the high quality extremely flexible and well built templates you all have produced over the last few years. So forgive me for thinking this was a Joomla version issue.
