meta tag <base> http vs. https

HTML meta tag "base" processes type of the protocol incorrectly (so far only on a home page).
It shows <base href="http://website/" /> in the source while page is opened with https:// protocol.
Causes IE to flag the page as "Only secured content is displayed" and therefore pretty much all css and js links are stripped off and page looks like ... well like google sees it.
Started to happen after upgraded to Gantry 4

In Configuration, do you have Force SSL set to Entire Site or Administrator? If so, try None.
https:// is usually for secure sites. Are you running your website on a secure server?

I'm running Yireo SSL Redirection and some pages are SSL enabled. However, this plugin doesn't work as desired all the times and pages sometimes are opened as https whenever they are not supposed to and vice versa. (I also believe it's due to either Gzip or Gantry Cache because it doesn't happen when these two are turned off)
At this moment I'm willing not to force the entire website to SSL due to some other 3rd party plugins that won't open without asking visitor to click "Show all content".

I was kind of wondering before about the questions like "Is your computer currently plugged in to the power outlet?" until I've seen it myself that person calls the customer support while it indeed isn't powered.

Well, since the option seems to be "all" or "none" and you have SSL Redirection on some pages, but not all, it would seem to me you would want to select "None."
Did you try "Entire Site" as well?

Thanks, but this way of solving the problem is irrelevant. Why should I go over the Joomla settings while header is generated by Gantry?
Let's start over:
URL (or URI? not sure which one is applicable in this case) is starting with https://domain.com
however meta tag <base> produces a reference to http://domain.com
Browser in this case flags all references (css and js links) as unsecured and the website won't open properly.

When you have secured and unsecured elements in same webpage, it will alert the visitor saying the page is not secured and ask them if they want to continue loading the page.
In short, it scares/confuses the visitors.
We need the meta, image loading, etc to be in the same http/https protocol.
While I am typing this thread, I have trouble toggling SSL on/off for each article? Where do you find the such feature in Joomla 2.5 or Gantry framework?
