  • Gantry Upgrade Questions

    • I am trying to learn more about the Gantry upgrade process and have 2 example sites. Both gantry templates have a fair amount of customization.

      Site1: Joomla 2.5.7 / Gantry Framework 3.2.19 / Gantry Template: rt_gantry 3.2.19
      Site2: Joomla 2.5.7 / Gantry Framework 4.0.5 / Gantry Template: gantry 4.0.3

      Questions:
      1. To confirm the Gantry Framework and Gantry templates are two independent items. Is this correct?
      2. Site 1 can I upgrade Gantry Framework from 3.2.19 to 4.0.5 without breaking the functionality of the template?
      3. Site 1 If I upgrade the Gantry Framework to 4.0.5 with the template become responsive? (I do not think it will)
      4. What is the best way to get Site1 to be a responsive gantry template? with minimal work? Do I need to upgrade the framework to 4.0.5 and the template to Gantry 4.0.3 and reapply my changes?
      5. What is the difference between the rt_gantry and gantry templates?


      Joomla 3.0
      Now what happens to Gantry Framework and Gantry template when it comes time to move up to Joomla 3?

      Correct - the framework is the operating framework upon which the template functions.

      Yes - so long as you haven't edited gantry framework files during previous customisations.

      The template will not become responsive.

      That is the approach I would take. There is information on - www.gantry-framework.org/ - about how to add changes using custom files to avoid losses in future updates.

      The earlier template was prefixed with rt_ as are the templates in the club. The latest gantry template was not prefixed. The early version will not be responsive whereas the later version is responsive.
