Are you trying to restrict it to a grid no larger than 960px?

Yes, I need to have a responsive template in a 960 grid width. The responsive design layout is 1200px wide. I need to make it 960px wide, as if it's a 960 grid fixed template but having responsive features.
Most of what I can show you is what other members/moderators have been working on but I'm afraid you're not going to be able to see the threads because your membership has expired.

Is this a good solution?
And , do I have to do this for every part of the template i.e: rt- top, rt-maintop, rt-footer, etc.. Or can this be done in a better way?
There's a lot more than a few rules you'll need to override. The modification would be a lot easier using media queries. You'll probably reach the level of LESS Jedi in the same time it takes to alter every little CSS rule. It's not just the main positions, you'll have to alter every little piece of the grid (if I understand what you're proposing). Even then I'm not sure anyone has actually done it either way.
